The Mohamed Ali mosque. The tallest building atop the Citadel mount, its domes and minarets are perhaps the most well-recognized landmark on the Cairo skyline. The mosque was built by the Armenian Mohamed Ali, who ruthlesslessly took control of Egypt in the 1800s.

A hallway of arches surrounds the mosque.

The windows of the mosque catch the afternoon sunlight.

The courtyard of the mosque.

Inside the mosque hang rings of lamps.

The rings of lamps up close.

The grave of Mohamed Ali, inside the mosque.

The Cairo skyline.

A side-view of the Mohamed Ali mosque, from one of the palaces.

A cool castle-like building.

The door of a jail cell. The Citadel was used as a prison when the British occupied Egypt.

More jail cell doors, with Coke boxes outside (Fortress Citadel meets Tourist Site Citadel).

Sunset from the Citadel. Note the Pyramids in the distance...

The End.
